KIDS
Sunday mornings - have kids? No worries, we've got you covered. Christ Church Westshore offers care and teaching for infants through 12th grade. Your children will be in a safe environment where they will learn about Jesus and have a fun time doing it. We welcome children of all ages to join worship in the main church and offer options if they're not ready to sit through the full service.
Our Nursery is staffed by volunteers, stocked with books and toys, and furnished for the safety and comfort for babies and toddlers and their care-givers. Parents are welcome to stay in the Nursery with their little ones. The Nursery opens at 9:00 a.m. and is available until approximately 10:45 a.m., when the Nursery volunteers and children come into the main church for Holy Communion.
Kids in 1st through 8th grades are invited to come to "KidCat Lite" (activities andgames ) at 9:00 a.m., while their parents participate in one of the Sunday morning adult studies. Grades 1 - 5 join the adults at the start of the 10:00 a.m. service in the main church. They leave for KidCat (Kid's Catechism - age appropriate lessons and activities to build their relationship with God and each other) after the opening hymns and prayers, returning after the sermon, before Holy Communion.
At 9:30 a.m. the middle school students (grades 6-8) leave KidCat Lite for "MidCat", teachings and discussions in preparation for joining the service before the Gospel reading and the sermon. After the sermon they leave briefly for a discussion of the sermon, returning to the main church for Holy Communion. MidCat is designed as a transition from KidCat to sitting through the whole service. It enables middle-schoolers to go "Further Up, and Further In" to the Word and our liturgical services.
Senior High Breakfast Club is offered at 9:00 a.m. with lessons geared to to grades 9 - 12. They join the main church for the 10:00 a.m. service.
YOUR FIRST VISIT
Visiting us for the first time? No fear! Our friendly greeters will show you to the Nursery and introduce you to our volunteers. For kids Kindergarten to 5th grade, they will show you which door the kids will use when they are dismissed to follow the KidCat (Sunday School) teachers to the Hearth Room. Feel free to ask to see the room, so that you are comfortable when they leave the service. We will meet your family and answer any questions you may have. We can't wait to meet you!
SAFETY
Volunteers at Christ Church Westshore are trained to create an atmosphere where families can confidently leave their children while they are in the worship service. Every volunteer has completed Ministry Safe training and is screened with a background check. Don't worry parents - we've got this!
WHAT WE TEACH
We teach God's word to our younger kids through two curriculums:
- Nursery - We use "The Storybook Bible" by Sally Lloyd-Jones
- KidCat (K-5th grade) - We use the Gospel Project
Both of these curriculums uphold God's word in a beautiful way, and they pull out the redemptive work of Christ from the beginning to the end of the Bible, with Jesus being on every page.
We engage the kids through games and fun lessons.
We come alongside parents as allies and provide them with resources, encouragement, love and prayer. We do this through the proclamation of God's word on Sunday and throughout the week in our Little Churches (fellowship groups).
